Katharine, thank you for this. I feel, despite our short earlier exchanges, I have just opened the door to meeting you.

In gratitude, Amy

And what a door you opened for me, Amy! It was astonishing to open the email from Trish O'Kane's husband. Thank you for making that happen.

I never expected to live through anything remotely like Katrina, as Trish did. And yet, that happened here. Trish emailed me during the storm with sage advice. I weathered the storm with greater strength as a result of the connection you brokered for me. in gratitude, Katharine

Honestly, Katharine, that is a thing I can take no credit for (which does not mean I'm not so damn happy it happened). In my life, I've found that there are times things arrange themselves, and there you are, simply a conduit. I have no idea how your particular post showed up in front of my face that day, I have not been a substack scroller. So I'd say, give credit to that mysterious thing. We can simply marvel at it. By the way, I loved hearing your voice. And I'm so sorry about the storm, every single way it's touched your life and the lives all throughout your region, and I'm sorry that in navigating it you had to add in this next storm. Keep seeing, keep writing, I will be reading.

I do love the days when we get to be conduits, and sometimes builders of bridges.

Have you read Samantha Harvey’s Orbital? I am in love with the world anew after reading that she intentionally dared to write a novel without conflict in the plot. Some say there is no plot. But she won the Booker with wisdom and beauty in her nature writing view of the wilderness of space. I think you would like her.🌱

Incredibly excited for this kinship!!

Thank you for this reminder…having lived through Katrina, “the storm,” I’m moved by your work.

And I am moved by your work, Caroline. You are slicing through some myths that need your sharp knife and love for language and long thoughts. 💙🌎

Oh, this is beautiful, Katharine. Loved hearing you read it and of course that sublime painting. Looking forward to this exchange. 🤍💚

All credit to Brian Funke! Knowing that he was depending on my input was a lifeline during the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. It's bizarre to function as if everything is 'okay' or will get back to 'normal' while living in the reality of a disaster zone...a disaster zone where i've been unsuccessful in my attempts to get rights of Nature for the Swannanoa River. I am grateful to be in the sphere of our Substack nature writers. I am grateful to you, the first writer with whom I collaborated.💙

The way is often (usually? always?) longer than we expect. Thank you for acting on behalf of the river’s rights. 💚

Beautiful! I have recently welcomed earwigs, what my wife calls 'pinchie bugs,' back into my family. When I find one indoors, I take it out the backdoor. I admit that I haven't gotten to the stage of letting them crawl on me, but I'll get there.

Thank you for the lifeline you extended to me in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. It was helpful to know that I had to show up for our collaboration.

I am eager to see where your creation takes you with future artists. An Exchange on a platform like Substack is genius...well done, B.

I really thought I could pull off a recording wtihout dog interference. 😌

Thank you for the goodness our collaboration.🌱🌿
